Cookies

Cookies are small files that a site or its service provider transfers to your computer’s hard drive through your Web browser, if you allow.  The cookies enable the site’s or service provider’s systems to recognize your browser and capture and remember certain information.

SeniorLivingU uses cookies to keep track of your current shopping session.  Not only do cookies enable us to personalize your experience on our site, but they also make it possible for you to retrieve your shopping cart at any time within 30 days of visiting our site.  They are also used to help us understand your preferences based on previous or current site activity.  This enables us to provide you with improved services. Additionally, cookies help us compile aggregate data about site traffic and site interaction so we can offer better site experiences and tools in the future.

You may choose to have your computer warn you each time a cookie is being sent, or you can choose to turn off all cookies. Your browser’s “Help” feature can assist you with adjusting or disabling the setting for cookies on your device.  However, since cookies are necessary to utilize certain features on our site, we recommend keeping them turned on.

Information Security

Information security is critical to our business. SLU’s website is scanned on a regular basis for security holes and known vulnerabilities in order to make your visit to our site as safe as possible.  Likewise, SeniorLivingU implements a variety of security measures when a user places an order, enters, submits, or accesses their information to maintain the safety of your personal information.

Your personal information is contained behind secured networks and is only accessible by a limited number of authorized professionals who have special access rights to such systems and are required to keep the information confidential. In addition, all sensitive/credit information you supply is encrypted via Secure Socket Layer (SSL) technology and all transactions are processed through a gateway provider and are not stored or processed on our servers.  SeniorLivingU also uses firewalls and other security technology to prevent our computers from being accessed by unauthorized persons.

It is important for you to protect against unauthorized access to your login ID/password, other sensitive account data, and your computer. Therefore, it is recommended that you log out of your account and close your browser window when you have finished using a shared computer and otherwise safeguard the password used to access the SeniorLivingU website and services.

Fair Information Practices

The Fair Information Practices and Principles have played a significant role in the development of data protection laws around the world. To be in compliance with the Fair Information Practices and Principles, should a data breach occur, SLU will notify within seven (7) business days:  registered users via email and site visitors via in-site notification.

Information Sharing and Disclosure

Third-party disclosure

SeniorLivingU does not sell, trade, or otherwise transfer to outside parties your personally identifiable information unless we provide users with advance notice. This does not include website hosting partners and other parties who assist us in operating our website, conducting our business, or serving our users, so long as those parties agree to keep this information confidential. For instance, in the course of processing a payment transaction, we typically receive from the merchant or financial institution information related to the transaction.

Additionally, SLU may release information when its release is appropriate to comply with the law; enforce our site policies; or protect our – or others’ – rights, property, or safety. Likewise, non-personally identifiable visitor information may be provided to other parties for marketing, advertising, or other uses.

Google

SLU has implemented Google Analytics Demographics and Interest Reporting to better understand the traffic our website receives. Google’s advertising requirements can be summed up by Google’s Advertising Policies. They are put in place to provide a positive experience for users.

Google, as a third-party vendor, uses cookies to serve ads on our site. Google’s use of the DART cookie enables it to serve ads to our users based on previous visits to our site and other sites on the Internet. Users may opt-out of the use of the DART cookie by visiting the Google Ad and Content Network privacy policy.

Users can set preferences for how Google advertises to you using the Google Ad Settings page. Alternatively, you can opt out by visiting the Network Advertising initiative opt-out page or permanently by using the Google Analytics Opt-Out Browser add on.

Therefore, SLU has no responsibility or liability for the content and activities of these linked sites. California Online Privacy Protection Act (CalOPPA)

CalOPPA is the first state law to require commercial websites and online services to post a privacy policy. The law requires a person or company in the United States that operates websites collecting personally identifiable information from California consumers to post a conspicuous privacy policy on its website stating exactly the information being collected, those individuals with whom it is being shared, and to comply with this policy.

To comply with CalOPPA SeniorLivingU agrees that:

  • Users can visit our site anonymously.
  • SLU will add a link to the privacy policy on our home page or on the first significant page after entering our website.
  • Our privacy policy link includes the word “Privacy” and can be easily found on the page specified above.
  • Users will be notified of any privacy policy changes on our privacy policy page.
  • Users are able to change their personal information by logging into their account.

Additionally, SLU honors “Do Not Track” (DNT) signals and does not track, plant cookies, or use advertising when a DNT browser mechanism is in place.
